The homeless speak- Jeffery from the shelter

Meet Jeffery from The Center of Hope shelter. Jeffery is too fragile to speak, age has caught up with him and to get a sentence out of him takes at least 3 minutes therefore his story is sweet and short.

Jeffery grew up in Vryheid, KwaZulu Natal but unfortunately did not have a family with best intentions at heart for him. He was abused until he was a teenager (didn’t specify what type of abuse) but when he thought he was grown enough he took to the city. He told his family he want to go look for a job and would come regularly, but the day he packed up was the last time he set his foot there.

He thought he had broken free and looked forward to his new life. He got a job and later got himself a nice girlfriend as a good extra. He lived with this woman for over 20 years with her kids and unfortunately did not conceive any kids together.

Things were going well she took care of him and he returned the favor. Unfortunately she dies, living him with her kids who couldn’t care for him when he got sick. They decided to move Jeffery to the shelter. It’s sad how no one visits him or check up on him, Vryheid is definitely not an option for him so he sits at the shelter and awaits his last day.
